Each year the Foundation for Academic Endeavors (FAE) provides a vital educational opportunity for underserved, low income children in Skagit Valley. For five weeks in July 270 students, preschool through grade 10, attend the FAE Summer Academy on the campus of Skagit Valley College in Mt. Vernon. Certified teachers and college interns bring the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) program to life for these eager learners, helping them keep academic skills strong during the summer months. By staying proficient in their studies students return to school in the fall with a strong sense of confidence and an excitement to excel in their studies.

 

Children attending FAE’s Summer Academy receive transportation, two free meals each day, and one new book a week to take home. Field trips, visiting artists and musicians, and a science fair round out this inspiring experience.

 

The cost of this five week program is $1,700 per child, but thanks to grants from the Discuren Foundation, Skagit Community Foundation, School’s Out Washington, Page Ahead Children’s Literacy, the transportation and summer eating programs through two local school districts, and financial support from private donors and numerous Episcopal and Lutheran churches, FAE is able to offer scholarships to families, bringing their cost to just $60 per child ($160 max per family), and a $20 transportation fee per child. This is why we rely so heavily on the generosity of donors like you to be a part of this invaluable experience.
