The Foundation for Academic Endeavors (FAE) creates opportunities for academic growth for low-income families with an emphasis on building leadership and community partnerships. The FAE Summer Academy is held in Mount Vernon Washington.  The program serves 200 preschool through high school students providing summer literacy, enrichment and STEM instruction in a creative and collaborative manner. FAE hires experienced teachers and college fellows to assist each teacher

Program Dates: 

July 5, 2021 - August 5, 2021

Mon, Thur 7:30 am to 3:30 pm 

Tue, Wed 7:30 am to 3:00 pm

 (Student Day 8:00am – 2:00pm) 

 

Zoom Curriculum and Planning Dates:  

20 hours of training in June 2021 (Because most teachers are still teaching in June, our meetings will be in the evenings at mutually agreeable times)

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Reports to the Directors of Foundation for Academic Endeavors (FAE)

  • Design and implement weekly lesson plans in appropriate subjects

  • Utilize a STEM- and literacy-based curriculum

  • Supervises children and oversees classrooms

  • Supervise classroom volunteers 

  • Mentor college fellows

  • In cooperation with fellows, supervise meals

  • Build community and leadership skills of students

  • Attend child abuse awareness and prevention education, (certificates are valid for 3 years)

  • Attend staff meetings 

  • Attend curriculum and planning meetings  (see dates above)

  • Submit to criminal background check

Qualifications and Skills

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Early Childhood Education Certificate

  • Teaching Certificate (or completion of coursework & student teaching)

Preferred Qualification

  • Bilingual English-Spanish desired

  • Exhibit competency and experience working in a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty, staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological, gender/sexuality, and ethnic backgrounds and identities.

  • Ability to use a personal computer, Microsoft Office products and database programs.

  • Excellent verbal, listening, writing, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication skills.

Salary and Appointment

Job Type: Part-time, temporary

Salary: $3,250 to $3,750 depending on experience
